Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

With Dr. Yaari Dyer, R. Psych, Certified MBSR Facilitator

February 4th - March 31st, 2024

Nine Sundays: Feb 4 – Mar 10th, March 24th, March 31st from 10 AM to 12.30; Plus a full day retreat on Sunday March 17th from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Location of classes and retreat: Kitsilano venue, spacious 500 sq ft, with room to physically distance. 

Payment: There will be an early bird price if payment by Jan 4th, 2024

Free MBSR Orientation/Information sessions by Zoom on Nov 4th or Dec 10th.

Some extended health plans may cover Psychological Services for BC residents. Non-reimbursed psychologist fees are considered a medical expense and can be used to contribute to the tax-deductible amount according to Canada Revenue Agency.

5-Day Online Mindfulness Meditation Retreat

March 22 to March 27, 2024

March 22nd                      (4:00 pm to 6:30 pm PST)

March 23rd -  26th           (6:30 am to 6:30 pm PST)

March 27                          (6:30 am to 9:30 am PST)

 

This traditional insight mindfulness meditation retreat will offer silent periods of sitting and walking meditation as well times for practice discussions. 

 

The online retreat will be facilitated by Bob Stahl and Kasim Al-Mashat.  It is suitable for anyone wishing to deepen their practice and cultivate further understanding of mindfulness meditation.  The retreat is open to all levels (beginner to experienced meditators).  

 

Please note: This 5-Day Retreat fulfils the retreat requirement that is part of the MBSR teacher training.  Continuing Education will be available.

Orientation via Zoom on Wednesday, Mar 27th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm.

Weekly Classes and the All-Day Class are at Reach The Peak (2597 Richter St, Kelowna)

The weekly classes are on Wednesday evenings (Apr 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, & 22) from 6:00 to 8:30 pm

The all-day class is on Saturday, May 11, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.

IN PERSON MINDFULNESS BASED COGNITIVE THERAPY (MBCT)

To manage Anxiety and Depression
With Brett Peterson, MA, RCC and /or Marian Smith, MA, RCC, Certified MBSR teachers
April 18 to June 13, 2024

Eight consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, plus a six-hour mini retreat on Sunday, June 2nd, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. No class on May 30.

 

This class will be offered in person at 3263 Heather Street between West 16th and 17th with all the precautions listed below.

In this program, we integrate cognitive behavioral therapy techniques with mindfulness practices. With practice, you will begin to develop a different and more compassionate relationship to negative thoughts, moods, feelings, and body sensations that significantly lowers rumination, anxiety, and depressive relapse.

This program can start at any time.

 

This program follows the same structure, curriculum and format as a group eight-week MBSR Program in a flexible and more intimate learning environment.

Nine consecutive 90 minute sessions (with exception to the first session which is 60 minutes). Plus one self-retreat between the sixth and seventh session.

Individual Mindful Self-Compassion Program

Online & In-Person with Brandi Matheson, Certified MBSR Teacher (UMASS & UCSD), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Teacher (UCSD), and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor.
 

Developed by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer, the Mindful Self-Compassion program was designed to help individuals alleviate unnecessary suffering caused by harsh self-judgement. Self-compassion is defined as "the ability to be with ourselves in the face of suffering." This program combines elements of mindfulness, which involves being aware without harmful judgment, and self-compassion, which embraces self-kindness, care, and understanding.

 

This program can start at any time and follows the same curriculum and format as a group eight-week MSC Program in a flexible and a more intimate learning environment.


Eight consecutive 90 minute sessions (with exception to the first session which is 60 minutes and the fifth session which is 180 mins).
